NEW recruits are being sought to get Victoria ready to take on bushfires this summer.

The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) and Parks Victoria are assembling their team of project firefighters.

As well as being on the bushfire frontline, project firefighters also assistwith the prevention and suppression of bushfires in parks and forests inpartnership with the CFA and other emergency response agencies.

Comprehensive training will be provided to recruits byDELWP and ParksVictoria fire personnel.

DELWP assistant chief fire officer forBarwon South WestAndrew Morrow said project firefightersplay a vital role.

“As a project firefighter you will become part of a team that helps protect communities frombushfires and make Victoria safer,” Mr Morrow said.

“You’ll learn new skillsand make a significant contribution toyour local community.”

A range of seasonal positions are on offer including roles as firefighters, fire support officers, hoverexit crew and rappel crew members.

The aimis to recruit an additional 300 men and women as project fire fighters forthe coming fire season. This includes21 positions in the south west district based at Heywood, Portland, Dartmoor, Casterton and Nelson.A fire support officer, to be based at Heywood, willalso berecruited.
