Many residents across the Highlands can now access fast broadband.

Towns that are now connected to the NBN include areas inBundanoon, Moss Vale, Welby,Bowral, Mittagong and New Berrima.

Federal Members for Hume and Whitlam Angus Taylor and Stephen Jones said it would be a great benefit for the community.

“This is a critical project,” Mr Jones said.

“Households rely on it to stay in touch with family, to run small businesses and for their children’s education. We want it to run properly.”

Mr Taylor said Bundanoon’s fixed-line NBN network would service more than 1300 homes and businesses.

“I’m excited to say that about 250 premises have already been connected,” he said.

“This heralds in a new era of telecommunications for this part of the Wingecarribee local government area.”

Mr Taylor said as the rollout continued, NBN service to Exeter, north Bundanoon, Wingello, Tallong and parts of Penrose and Canyonleighwould become available.

In Mr Jones’ electorate, he said plans were also underway to connect the NBN to towns and areas of towns that were not yet connected.

He said those eligible needed to ensure the fibre is connected to the household and not the node in order to access the high speed broadband.

“I have had a lot of complaints from people that have the fibre connected to the node.

“You need to build the fibre to the household. If you have the fibre connected to the node, then it really depends on the quality of the copper cable between the node and the house and some can be rubbish.”
