This month we celebrated NAIDOC week, Education week and successes in the spelling bee and the Taree Horse Sports Day.Group three students had an educational excursion to Sydney.

NAIDOC celebrations Naidoc Week: Our school celebrated Naidoc Week with cultural dances performed by our boys’ dance group and a special girls’ dance group from Taree High. Pictured are Brayden Livermore, Keoni Steadman, Noah Wickenden, Andreus Bellenger and Beau Moran-Choppin.

Mosaic of Dinuni: The shark is a totem of the local Biripi tribe. Thanks to Mr White, Uncle Russell, Uncle John and the students who created this amazing mosaic. The creation of the mosaic was a project of Mr White’s as part of his internship on 5/6W.

Mural of everyday life in early Wingham: This mural was created by Uncle Russell Saunders and Uncle John Taylor who are elders in residence. The mural is displayed in the courtyard for all students to appreciate. It depicts both indigenous people and early settlers along the Manning River.

Sydney Excursion: classes 5/6W and 4/5J at Hyde Park. Our first group of stage three students travelled to Sydney to stay at the Hyde Park Barracks. They learned about the history of Sydney and enjoyed a visit to the Police and Justice Museum. They embarked on a three hour walking tour of the Rocks and heard many convict stories.

Spelling Bee champions: Congratulations to our four representatives who have qualified to attend the NSW Premier’s Spelling Bee Finals at Forster Public School on Tuesday September 12. We are very proud of our spelling champions. Pictured are Lincoln Parry, Jayden Roy, Taylah Brown and Hayley Ruysch.

Education Week: Keanu, Terry and Shannia Yeark. We were thrilled to see so many members of our community entertained by our talented choirs and participating in classroom activities. Together, we made a community of people that are now proudly displayed in the hall. Children enjoyed a picnic lunch with their family members.

Taree Horse Sports Day. Four students represented our school proudly at the Taree Sports Day. Congratulations to Dylan O’Hara on winning the 12 Year Reserve Champion section.
