RUNNING: House Captain of MacKillop Hayley Lynn hot on the tail of House Captain of Fitzroy Makaylah Doust FINE weather helped St Joseph’s school athletes to run fast, fly high and break records at their annual athletics carnival held at King George oval recently.

The carnival had to be rescheduled due to inclement weather but the wait didn’t seem to bother most students who were enthusiastic to compete on the day.

St Joseph’s School spokesperson Leeanne McHarg said it was a wonderful day with fantastic weather for competitors and spectators alike.

“Congratulations to our House Captains; Isaac, Grace for Penola, Jye and Makaylah for Fitzroy for their leadership and a special mention to Archie and Hayley who led their house MacKillop to victory this year,” she said.

“One record was broken on the day that being discus with Adam Campbell excelling himself again in discus with a throw of 30.37 metres.

“Adam broke Jay Gallagher’s record from 2007 by a whopping 4.69 metres, congratulations Adam on a great effort.

“All the students that participated did their best and that added the great atmosphere of the day.”

Mrs McHarg said St Joseph’s have 35 athletes from the carnival now eligible to represent the school at the Armidale Diocesan Carnival to be held in Tamworth on Friday August 19.

“We wish those athletes well as they have worked hard to get the results that gained them selection,” she said.

“We are sure they will represent the school well and do us proud.”
