And next month they will be holding events to celebrate 40 years of being in operation.

From just twocarers in 1976 to now over 40 educators operating their professional child care services in their own family environments, Dubbo Family Day Care certainlyhas come a long way.

“Forty years ago childcare was in its infancy and Dubbo was fortunate Council’s Social Welfare committee, in particular Social worker Colleen Montgomery saw both the need and benefit to the community to set up a Family Day Care Scheme in Dubbo,”Family Day Care service managerChrissCronin said.

“Dubbo Family Day Care is still sponsored by the Western Plains Regional Council which has allowed the community to have trust in the services ability to provide a high standard in home-based child care and provide encouragement and support for the Educators, and assurance for parents that their children’s needs are being met.”

Ms Cronin saidFamily Day Care offers for children the warmth and security of family life, the companionship of a small group of children, and educational experiences within the realm of normal family activities.

“Dubbo Family Day Care has 40 registered educators, each offering care for up to fourpre-schoolers and threeschool age children, including their own,” she said.

Currently426 children are enrolled to use the service, and an average of350 children attend each week.

“The care used ranges from a few hours per week up to 50 hours per week for our pre-schoolers aged from 5 months to school age and before / after school and vacation care for our school aged children up to 14yrs old.

Dubbo Family Day Care also has 12 registered in Home Care Educators who provide care in the families own home to 16 families who would not otherwise have access to childcare.

To mark the 40th milestone, Dubbo Family Day Care is planning a fun-filled morning of celebrations in Victoria Park on Wednesday, September 14 from 9.30 am to 11.30 am, and an evening event to be held at theDubbo RSL Club on the Saturday.

“To help create a party atmosphere we have booked a jumping castle and face painting for the children, there will also be some craft activities and organised games as well,” Ms Cronin said.

A formal dinner oftables of eight has been organisedin the Starlight Room at the Dubbo RSL Club for Saturday,September 17 from 7pm.

The cost to attendis $40 per person, and includes finger food on arrival and a two course meal.

“We have used social media to reach some of our past staff and educators however would love to hear from any carers/ educators/ past staff and partners who would like to know more,” Ms Cronin said.
